Resolved Question: What to see on my road trip.?.?.?

I live in Southern California, Orange County area and am taking a road trip to Coos Bay Oregon to check out a college. There are about 4 or 5 of us going, both guys and girls and we want to stop and see things on the way. Any recommendations on places we can go and things to see on the way there and during our stay there will be greatly appreciated. Please no Disney, Universal, Knotts, or Six Flags, we live right next to them. Things like museums, historic locations, popular attractions, basically anything worth stopping to see.
